Recyloop Wins the ‘Green Nobel’ of the Business World

Recyloop Sustainable Packaging Inc., one of Turkey’s leading brands in sustainable paper packaging, has won first place in the “Waste Management and Zero Waste” category at the 12th Sustainable Business Awards — one of the most prestigious environmental awards in the business world.

Known as the “Green Nobel” of the business world, the Sustainable Business Awards evaluate environmental responsibility projects of companies in Turkey and the region. This year, more than 200 projects competed, and Recyloop was unanimously awarded first place by the jury for its groundbreaking innovation — Turkey’s first 100% recyclable paper cup production.

Transforming the “unrecyclable” paper cup

Recyloop’s HydroLoop water-based coating technology has achieved a first in the industry by completely eliminating the recyclability problem of paper cups.

Produced without the need for plastic coatings such as PE or PLA, Recyloop cups can be fully recycled in existing paper recovery systems. With this innovation, the company has launched a new era in sustainable packaging, aligning its production model with Turkey’s Zero Waste targets and the EU Green Deal criteria. The project — which prevents waste at its source, closes the loop, and redefines production through local technology — stands out as a milestone for the Turkish industry’s ability to deliver sustainable manufacturing on a national scale.

Taking its name from the combination of the words “recycle” and “loop,” Recyloop bases its entire business model on the principles of the circular economy. Throughout design, production, supply, and recovery, the company applies reduction at source, reuse, and recycling principles at every stage.

“We became the voice of a productive and sustainable Turkey”

Highlighting that this award symbolizes not only Recyloop’s success but also the Turkish industry’s determination in sustainable production, Recyloop Board Member Ömer Erhan Eroğlu stated: “On this journey that began with know-how from the U.S. and vision from Turkey, we have built a production model that surpasses European standards. We see packaging not as waste, but as a reusable resource. This award represents the voice of a productive Turkey working for a sustainable future.”

Target: 5 billion cups annually

The founders of Recyloop bring over 40 years of experience in producing sustainable food packaging for global brands such as Starbucks, McDonald’s, Burger King, Kahve Dünyası, EspressoLab, Caffè Nero, Gloria Jean’s, Juan Valdez, and Turkish Airlines. This international expertise has been transferred to the paper cup industry, enabling Recyloop to reach global quality standards and position Turkey in the global league of sustainable packaging.

The company’s production infrastructure — recently strengthened by high-speed PMC lines transferred from U.S.-based PartyCity, one of the world’s largest producers — represents a model where American engineering meets Turkish innovation.

Developed with domestic engineering contributions, the facility has become one of Europe’s most advanced paper cup manufacturing centers. Exporting sustainable paper packaging to Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa, Recyloop aims to reach an annual production capacity of 5 billion cups by 2030, covering more than 1% of the global market on its own.
