RecyLoop Makes a Strategic Acquisition Move

RecyLoop Brings Its Technology to Global Standards Through Collaboration with Michelman Ohio

RecyLoop Sustainable Packaging Inc., a company recognized for its innovative solutions in sustainable packaging technologies, is bringing its HydroLoop barrier technology for paper-based packaging to global standards through a technical collaboration with Michelman, the global leader in coating and performance materials.

This strategic collaboration aims to further develop and validate HydroLoop’s performance, recyclability compatibility, and sustainability criteria on an international scale.

HydroLoop: A Water-Based, Recycling-Compatible Barrier for Paper Packaging

“Every day, billions of paper cups are consumed worldwide, and the vast majority are coated with plastic to prevent liquid absorption, making them effectively unrecyclable.”

Approximately 500 billion single-use paper cups are consumed globally each year, most of which are lined with a thin layer of LDPE plastic. If just 10% of these cups were converted to water-based, recycling-compatible barrier technologies, this would prevent the use of over 30,000,000 kg of plastic coatings annually.

HydroLoop is an innovative technology developed as an alternative to conventional paper cups. It is water-based, compatible with existing recycling processes, and delivers the barrier performance required for paper packaging. The technology specifically targets the elimination of plastic layers that hinder recycling in single-use products such as paper cups.

With this approach, RecyLoop’s trademark product HydroLoop was recognized with an award at the 2025 Sustainable Business Awards, demonstrating through independent platforms that it offers a solution capable of reducing environmental impact while remaining industrially scalable.

A Technology Strengthened Through International Collaboration

Within the scope of the technical work conducted with Michelman, HydroLoop’s performance across different packaging applications is being evaluated based on coating technologies, application capability, and scalability criteria. This collaboration represents a significant step in RecyLoop’s vision of bringing its sustainable packaging solutions to global markets.

Statement from RecyLoop

“With this initiative, we have decided to bring the Turkish sector up to date in pioneering sustainability together with our U.S.-based coating technology partner Michelman and our machinery partner PMC. Sustainability should not be a niche; it must be the standard. That is exactly what we aim to achieve with this innovation and those to come in the future.”
