Turkey’s pioneering company in sustainable packaging, Recyloop Sustainable Packaging Inc., has reached the finals in the “Waste Management and Zero Waste” category of the “Sustainable Business Awards 2025.” The company’s HydroLoop Water-Based Coating Technology eliminates the problem of paper cups that cannot be recycled due to the thin layer of plastic inside, making the cups fully recyclable, biodegradable, and contributing to the circular economy.
Today, almost all paper cups on the market are coated with a thin plastic layer to prevent liquid leakage. However, because of this plastic, the cups are neither suitable for paper recycling nor plastic recycling, and they end up being discarded directly, adding to global plastic pollution. Thanks to HydroLoop technology, developed and introduced as an innovative solution by Recyloop—producer of recyclable paper-based packaging and creator of environmentally friendly, innovative business models—the cups become fully recyclable, biodegradable, and part of the circular economy. The new technology, with its special coating composed of 97% water and 3% bio-based polymer, eliminates the need for a plastic layer. With this innovation, truly recyclable paper cup production becomes possible, aiming to prevent 100,000 kilograms of plastic waste annually.
As of 2026, Recyloop aims to produce 50% of its annual 1 billion cups with HydroLoop technology, reaching 95% by 2030. With these investments, the company will continue to directly contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Had acquired lines from a U.S. giant
As one of the leading companies in sustainable packaging, Recyloop recently brought to Turkey PARTYCITY’s paper cup facility, located at the heart of the U.S. billion-dollar party entertainment sector, and transferred its advanced automation paper cup production lines to our country. Recyloop brought 7 special PMC paper cup production lines belonging to the company, adding them to its newly acquired 20 lines, for a total of 27 lines in production. This investment stands out as the largest single capacity investment ever made in Turkey in the paper cup sector. With this acquisition of PARTYCITY’s lines, Recyloop not only brought a facility but also America’s decades of production technology and industry expertise to Turkey. Equipped with artificial intelligence-supported quality control systems and designed to minimize energy and water consumption, the facility aims to reach an annual capacity of 5.5 billion cups within the next 5 years, covering more than 1% of global production on its own.
