Turkey has the potential to become a regional hub in coffee.

With annual per capita consumption reaching 1.1 kilograms, coffee in Turkey is transforming into a giant sector, driven by new-generation consumption habits and a surge in entrepreneurship. In parallel with global trends, diversifying consumer expectations are pushing brands to add sustainability certification, digital subscriptions, and regional distribution to their strategic goals.

Although there are varying forecasts regarding the size of the global coffee market by 2025, reliable market research firms agree that the sector is expanding faster than other commodity markets. Rising global consumption is propelling coffee into a massive economic dimension. According to projections by Statista, the global coffee market will reach USD 485.59 billion this year. Retail sales revenue in the coffee market is expected to hit USD 105.37 billion, while revenue from restaurants, cafés, and bars will reach USD 380.22 billion. Despite coffee prices rising more than 40% in international markets over the past year and another 16% this year, global coffee sales continue to grow rapidly.

It is stated that in the coming years, three main factors will drive the growth of the global coffee market: differentiation (specialty coffee and third-wave trends), the rapid growth of ready-to-drink/cold coffee & RTD segments, and new and expanding consumption regions, especially in Asia-Pacific. Additionally, demand for sustainability, traceability, and certification is becoming a strategic priority for brands. While global production is projected to grow by 4.72% in 2025, climate conditions and global logistics are expected to cause price volatility. This is anticipated to directly impact retail prices and consumer habits.

The market in Turkey will grow 5% this year

In Turkey, the coffee market is also expanding, driven by both the demand for traditional Turkish coffee and the influence of espresso/chain café culture. Industry reports project around 5% growth for the Turkish market this year. Although estimates of market size vary across companies, significant growth is evident in both at-home and out-of-home consumption categories.

Although Turkey is not a coffee producer and relies heavily on imports, it holds regional importance due to its consumption dynamics. Its proximity to Middle Eastern and West Asian markets, strong coffee culture (both traditional and modern), and growing café chains make Turkey a regional hub and growth engine. However, since Turkey still accounts for only a small share of the global market, greater impact will require focusing on exports or innovation in coffee equipment and service.

High prices don’t spoil coffee enjoyment

Coffee consumption — the favorite companion of both work desks and conversations — continues to rise. This proves that people are unwilling to give up their coffee pleasure despite record price hikes in recent months. According to a report published by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) during the summer, global coffee consumption in the new season starting this month is expected to reach 169.4 million bags (each weighing 60 kg). This means consumption will increase by 3 million tons compared to the previous year.

New technology saves paper cups from the landfill

Turkey’s pioneering sustainable packaging company, Recyloop Sustainable Packaging Inc., became a finalist in the “Waste Management and Zero Waste” category at the “Sustainable Business Awards 2025.” The company’s HydroLoop Water-Based Coating Technology eliminates the problem of paper cups that cannot be recycled due to their thin plastic lining, making them fully recyclable, biodegradable, and supportive of a circular economy. Highlighting that reaching the finals not only demonstrates Recyloop’s success but also validates Turkey’s sustainability vision on an international platform, Recyloop Packaging Inc. Board Member Ömer Erhan Eroğlu stated: “With our HydroLoop technology, we have for the first time provided a genuine recycling alternative for single-use cups. We will continue working with the goal of leaving a cleaner and more livable world for future generations.”
